Our story
Marad, short for ‘maritime administration’, was created in 1999 by two friends. Pieter was a maritime engineer, and Gerrit worked as a programmer for Royal Huisman. They started the whole thing in a place you might guess where: the garage.
What began as a simple tool for planned maintenance has grown into a trusted ecosystem used by thousands of vessels and companies around the world. Thank you for being part of our journey — we’re just getting started.
J. van Urk
Pieter founded Marad after a maritime career as an engineer and nautical engineering teacher. He is licensed for both merchant and inland shipping, with strong technical and hands-on experience.
Johannes has a background in IT and is a certified maritime officer for all ships. He also holds multiple degrees in Business Administration, and has a passion for information security.
The people behind Marad
We are more than family business. Marad, previously called MaraSoft, was founded with a clear yet ambitious mission: to transform how vessels are managed. And maybe, just maybe, to ensure we never lose our entire maintenance history by dropping a logbook in the bilge again.
Marad has been in continous development since 1999. We are currently developing three native applications: Marad desktop (both online and offline), the Marad web application, and the Marad app.
